You dont need a special TV set to have Tivo. You just need a Tivo receiver and you need to pay for the service from your cable or dish provider.
Our original Tivo system cost $200, but that was because we had to buy it through DirecTV. You can buy one for $100. Depending on your cable provider, you might pay $10-15 per month, but it is well worth it! One thing to remember is Tivo needs to be plugged into a phone line, because this is how it acquires data like TV schedules.
Tivo is great because of pausing live TV, recording shows without worrying about a blank tape or DVD and the settings. The best thing about Tivo is that you can set up a "Season Pass" so that Tivo records all the new eps of one of your favorite shows. You can also look up when shows are on next. I really couldn't live without Tivo now! :)

I love my Tivo. It is like recording on a CD instead of a Tape. So much easier. Tivo is a brand name, it is actually a DVR recorder. You do not buy a special tv and it works with what cable or satellite you want.
We got our Tivo box for free from DirectTv when we signed up. I've heard they go for about $100 at Target.
For us on one tv, our bill went up $5 a month.

TiVo is a brand of a DVR (digital video recorder). It's basically a computer that is set to record whatever you want. It also has memory and stores the programs you record. Mine can hold up to 70 hours of recorded programs at once.
You can buy one to use with whatever cable provider you have right now. But, what would be even BETTER would be to sign up with DirecTV and they'll give you a TiVo for free. That's how I got mine. You have to keep it for a year in order to not have to pay for it, but it's totally worth it!
As far as cost goes...since mine was free from DirecTV I don't know how much TiVo boxes actually cost, but believe me, it's truly a great investment. You do have to pay a monthly subscription fee of about $5 for the service though. For me, it just shows up as a charge on my monthly bill.
TiVo is awesome! You'll love it and wonder what you used to do when you didn't have it. It will literally change your life. When I'm at other people's houses watching TV I'll catch myself wanting to rewind live TV and they don't have it. Also, it allows you to maximize your time and use it wisely because you aren't committed to watching shows when they come on. Enjoy! =)

The Direct television DVR is organic garbage and they understand it!!!!!!! I .battled with 2 of the R15 packing bins for roughly 6 months. 5 packing bins later i ultimately had sufficient and instructed them to take those turds out of my domicile. i have had Direct television for roughly 10 years and with the TIVO provider for roughly 4 at the same time as they talked me into procuring and promoting them in for the DVR's. What a mistake!!!!!!!!!! They lock up and also you should save resetting them then they finally supply up completly.also they are very consumer un pleasant. the distant is close to unusable. And in case you pushed the incorrect button you've been in problem because it is going to take you about 5 minutes to come again to the position you've been. That section is confusing to describe, even with the indisputable fact that it you personal this style of you recognize what i'm speaking about. finally as i changed into waiting to offer up the retention branch at Direct television instructed me to attempt to discover some previous style TIVO contraptions interior the aftermarket because they could't furnish them anymore. fairly unhappy for them that which may be the answer!!! Buts thats what I did. Now I have my TIVO back and existence is solid back! yet Direct television did refund the $150 I paid for the used contraptions. I merely examine that Direct has made a clean deal with TIVO to proceed servise till eventually the year 2110. i imagine that tells the completed tale. they have a situation! yet another situation is that the Tech help human beings at Direct television are programed to assert all of them have those r15 fashions and are more than satisfied with them, and how they are far superior then the TIVO contraptions. I do sense sorry for those undesirable those who ought to deal with Irate previous TIVO vendors and the in reality aspect there allowed to do is lie to us! My opinion is considering TIVO has been having a confusing time preserving it truly is head aflote financially Direct television must be thinking some form of merger with them and scrap this DVR idea!
