Isn’t he the one who won the South Carolina primaries, against Sen. John McCain in 2000 by making a telephone campaign to White Conservatives homes (the night before the Primaries), reminding them that McCain has a “black baby.” Referring to the child John McCain had adopted from Bangladesh?

This is the same man who turned down NAACP chairman Julian Bond’s invitations to address the NAACP convention 6 times!

This is the very insidious nature of these BushBots. Proclaim themselves non-racists and heck the world knows they are not racists, therefore they can be as racist as they like.

I very much remember that incident and Chimp did benefit from it. It just goes to show the motivation of the people in that part of the country. Thank FCUK that I am far removed from anywhere that Bush would run for governance.

btw. Was in Calif. last weekend. Loved it.

No, Bush didn't do that, his campaign people did it with his approval. It was straight out of the Republican dirty tricks playbook.

Personally, Bush probably is not a racist. Even back when he was in college, he criticized a fellow frat member who made a racist remark.

In a way, the fact that he is not racist against blacks make some of his other actions worse. For example, during the crucial S. Carolina 2000 primary against McCain, Bush made statements endorsing the S. Carolina state flag which is remarkably similar to the Confederate flag. Then he made an appearance at Bob Jones University, a college which did not allow interracial dating, even off campus.

Anything for the vote -- he has no principles, morals or ethics at election time.

The NAACP has publicly announced their hatred of him. They are a machine for the DNC. How many times did Clinton speak at the annual NRA meeting?

He has appointed more minorities to the highest level of government than any other President. Actions speak louder then unauthorized words spoken (especially in a mud slinging election) in my book.

You could call him a classist or elitist, but not racist.

Racism even in and indirect way can be dangerous, remember this is the man who's Mother so callously stated that the residents of New Orleans, a city predominantly African American, are "cashing in" so to speak on hurricane assistance. I still can't believe she said it. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Liberals think they can end the debate just by calling someone a "racist." I, and millions of others, don't accept the premise of your question. Racists don't appoint more minorities to high-level positions than any previous President.

Racists do, however, call others "racist" in order to assuage their own guilt.

UPDATE: He had every reason to turn down the NAACP. They only wanted him there so they could heckle him, as they eventually did when he finally did accept their invitation.
