Can we come up with real suggestions to help us unite? In the 60's they got it right. There was a charmer(Martin) and a soldier(Malcolm). They didn't want to see a race war ,so they did everything to keep Martin happy so they wouldn't have to deal with Malcolm. Do you think there are too many people trying to lead?

All I'm saying is that we have a history of opposing each other. Since the 60's and especially now, more so in politics. I think that we can all have different ideas but, the same common goals and interests.

AMEN! Actually, I think the problem is that we don't have enough people trying to lead.....rather, too many leaders wanting to follow....good question

If you are an American then fine. You were massivly oppresed and to be fair I do not know the scenario in the states. BUT here in the UK it is that attitude that will isolate you from everyone else. Why do you want to isolate yourselves? You don't need to. The more you isolate yourselves, the less succesful you will be because you are genrally rarther lazy and can't be bothered to get out there and find a job. As I say this is just in the UK so if you are an American I am not aiming this at you - I think it was terrible in New Orleans and I do believe that you need to sort that out. If that was, erm, wherever loads of white people live in the USofA Bush would have got help there in a seconed. There are not enough people trying to sort out Americas huge rich white, poor black divide.

I'm not black, but am intrigued by your question.
It seems to me (as an Asian American) that the Black community is more fragmented in both problems and goals than back in the a60's. There are still rampant issues of poverty and urban blight, but black-on-black violence is at an all time high, and the segment of blacks who are more affluent and successful is far different circumstances than in the '60s.
All to say, I wonder if another charmer and soldier (as you put it, an interesting way to describe Martin and Malcolm's respective roles) were to rise to prominence and influence, would a majority of the black community actually stand behind them as duly appointed representatives (so to speak) and tacitly authorize them as a VOICE for them?
I'm not so sure it's a problem of too many people trying to lead...I wonder if it's that there's no unified black majority who is willing to follow a singular leadership and agenda.

Most black people are not being left behind. It may appear so if you watch the evening news, but appearances can be quite deceiving. The amount of progress that black people have made in the last 100 years or the last 50 years is staggering. The civil rights movement is over, and the victories have been one. Now it's time for personal leadership.
Black people don't need a leader other than the man in the mirror.

The 60's worked because all they had to do was to change unjust laws. Now everything looks good on paper so things are more difficult. That is, the 1960s was about the legislative branch's laws. The 2000s is about the executive branch's enforcement of those laws....quite a harder task.

What do you mean by left behind?
I manage just fine on my own. I have a fulltime job and a part time business and have needed no racially divided organization to acquire either. Do you suggest a black version of the KKK or what?
I didn't like the Black Panthers and I don't need another voice besides my own.

Just to the first guy:

You've got to be kidding me! What you just said is kind of racist.
