actually in reality i recommend a utility called Speed Fan. its been 100% recommended by Maximum PC. The utility is designed to allow you to slow down or speed up your fans.Heres the link to download it and run it http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php Heres the things with Laptops fan's it dosen't have to go too fast. A average speed for a CPU laptop fan is around 1,900 to 2,760 depending on the processor if it is a fast hot processor it can go even faster.
For your video card it can be a bit less, now your main fan to circulate all over the case could be around 1,200rpm to 2,200 not too fast but it's made to last longer, Dell, Toshiba, Alienware(Now Dell Alienware) ABS, Lenovo,DIY Laptop,Asus,Emachines, all employ first copper heatsinks this take the most heat away from the processor and the computer and uses the fan to blow it out. However some computer fans are impossible to find unless you check radioshack special order, or call the laptop company why?
i doubt it that you might need to change your laptop fan, if the laptop fan says sleeve-bearing its using grease to spin its fans up and dies a lot quicker but it costs less, double ball bearing or single ballbearing last a lot longer and remove a lot more heat but it costs more.
So the solution test it with speed fan if its slow be careful and if its fast it could be your computer overheating, but a Lap Notebook Cooler than you can put on your lap and it can cool your computer better
Hope this helps:)

The computer fan comes on and off when the laptop has been on long enough for the temp to rise which switches on the fan. There should be a fan port or grill on the corner of the laptop if you check it carefully you should see fins turning. They are extreamly quiet. If you are getting a lot of lockups and random reboots that may be a heat indication

Ok you need to go to limewire. Download their software and a few dozen songs. Make sure they are long songs. Not those very short songs. When you are downloading your songs let them finish. After that is done restart your pc. After that is done disable your anti virus and firewall. Give it about 4 weeks. Once that time passes put your ear to your laptop fan. If you hear it spinning your fan is working. If not you need a new laptop.
