Yuck - that sounds gross.

Take him to the doc. The dye could have gotten in an open sore and gotten infected.

Swelling is indicative of an allergic reaction to the dye, irritation of the skin due to burning by the dye, an infection (due to an open sore, ingrown hair or such)...or some combination of all three.

The presence of pus obviously indicates an infection.

One, he needs to see a doc for antibiotics for the infection, and proper diagnosis of any other related issues. An allergic reaction may require triamcinilone or other steroidal prescrtiption, and if the skin is seriously burned by the dye that will need some topical treatment as well.

As far as recourse with the salon, I would wait until after a proper diagnosis is made by the physician - then you'll be dealing with actual facts and be able to make a credible case for some sort of resolution.

Sorry this all happened, hope your husband ends up okay at the end of it.

Sounds like an allergic reaction to the dye - better see a doctor - similar thing happened to my grandmother (let me clarify - she wasn't dying her goatee she died her hair). Her entire face swelled up - she was prescribed an anti-biotic.

Well, unless your husband is Jay Leno, then it sounds like an allergic reaction. This is why people are supposed to use a small test area to insure no reaction.
