it has to be OAK my client is a pain and insists on oak, no exceptions.

you'll probably have to order them on line.Just go to google and ask where you can by them

Not Oak, but hardwood dowels (and they will work fine) the graining will not be a problem for you in a dowel. Home Depot has a store in NYC and they carry hardwood dowels.

dykes lumber carries a good selection of oak and hardwood trim.
home depot does not.
