Muscle strain:

Grade 1: Muscle or tendon fibers are stretched and a few may be torn (mild pain, no loss of muscle function)
Grade 2: A partial tear of the muscle or tendon (moderate pain, edema, bruising, and moderate loss of muscle function)
Grade 3/4: A full thickness tear of the muscle or tendon (severe pain, edema, bruising, and complete loss of muscle function)

It help determine the severity of the injury. Grade 1 is general soreness, like after a workout. Grade 2 is a larger strain. Grade 3 and 4 are determined on the amount of tears that is involved, whether is it detached from the bone or not.

SCS is indicated when a patient presents with symptoms such as protective muscle spasm or mechanical joint dysfunction. It is also indicated when symptoms are relieved by rest or positioning and reproduced or aggravated by certain movement or posture. Contraindications of SCS are healing fractures, malignancy, open wounds, sutures, severe rheumatoid arthritis, hematoma, extreme hypersensitivity to touch, emotional states and systemic and local infection

Upon evaluation, the entire body is scanned for tender points and prioritized according to their severity. The grading system for severity is based on four categories. Extremely sensitive when there is (+) Jump sign and severe tenderness to touch. Very sensitive when there is (-) Jump sign but the point is very tender. Moderately sensitive when there is (-) Jump sign with some tenderness. No Tenderness when it is not tender to touch
