I don't think it would have had any effect on world affairs, as politically he wielded no authority. She was a popular person but did not make decisions about things.
He could have married her if he wanted to, and who knows what would have happened if they had time to develop a relationship. It is not forbidden for muslim men to marry christian women. I don't know that she was a christian, only that she was not a muslim.
