Because to make a trailer you have to finish the film then take bits from it that would interest people enough to watch it. Even though it is normally seen first it is the last thing made.

Because they used to show them after the main movie when people would stay for the AC and they wanted to get all they could out of their movie dollar (or their movie $.25). Now however people want to race out so they wont get stuch in the traffic leaving the show... so they show them first.

let me put it this way, think of the movie as a home, an absolute and complete structure. the trailer is like a trailer home, not quite the real thing but close,,, also,, living in a trailer home will constantly remind u of the need for a real home, and dats exactly wat da movie trailer does,,,,! bingo!

Perhaps because it was made after the movie, it "trails" after it Ffurthermore, it creates a trail leading you to the movie.

Because a trail is a path and the 'trailer' leads you to the film. i.e. should make you want to go see it.
