We cannot afford the rent at our apartment, our roomate (lil sis-n-law) moved out on us a few months ago and we have been strugglin' to pay our other bills b/c we have to cover for her part of the rent. Her name wasn't on the lease, only my husband's. Our lease isn't up until Dec. 10th or so, but we need to get out asap - we already have a place to move to (mom's) for now. Any advice???

You should come clean to your landlord ASAP and beg for his/her's understanding. If that doesn't work, find someone to move in or ask if you can sublet.

FYI - in most states they can charge you rent for the months between when you move out and when your lease is up. However, they can not charge you if someone else moves in to your apartment. And, they are obligated to search for a new tenent and not deny anyone just so that they can continue to charge you. Your state may be different but that is how it is in NY and many other states.

If you have a very understanding landlord, you may be able to just explain - tell the truth and get out of it. It is easier if you have found someone else to take over the apartment and sign a new lease, since the landlord does not want to lose $$$$.

find some 1 that u can trust 2 stay in the house that will pay the rent,,,i advise u not to break lease because will go on ur record

Like what they said. You will be charged for the remaining time on the lease. Doesnt matter how or why you have to move. Maybe try this. Tell them your husband died and that you will be moving in with your mom. Go in crying and I bet they will work with you. just make sure your husband doesnt pop in after you tell them this.
