Of course. Philosophy is based on logic, rationality and critical thinking. Religion is based on myth and supeprstition. Philosophy seeks to answer difficult questions; religion seeks to answer unanswerable questions.

There's a huge difference between the two. Philosophy is something that resides within you. Religion is something imposed from outside. Philosophy does not require a god or one god but seeks to learn about all possibilities. Philosophy is without answers where religions all claim they have THE answer.

Philosophy is a way of thinking about or looking at things. Religion is a matter of faith. There are all kinds of philosophy: religious, historical, economic, political, etc. Even some aspects of science and mathematics can be considered philosophy.

They are both a search for meaning.
Philosophy is a theoretical rational investigation of questions about existence and knowledge and ethics. This means the philosopher may or may not subscribe to multiple philosophies; and is frequently able to argue any philosophy from opposing points of view. A philosophical question can be asked about anything.
Religion is NOT simply a theoretical set of beliefs; it spills over into an individual's life in such a way that the individual believes in its precepts. Most of the power of religion resides in a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny. Religion tends to bind individuals in a community of common beliefs, with a common moral ground.
In some cases, persons or institutions of power take advantage of the precepts of religion and control the people who live under its rules. (Think of the church during the dark ages.)

faith is a money-making undertaking; merely look in any respect the mega-church homes and televangelists with their personal inner most jets. Philosophy would not pay squat; you eventually end up operating at Starbucks, merely hoping that hostile to all odds sometime you'll make it onto Jeopardy! and there'll be a classification about Nietsche. -- change rationalization -- "Philosophy is a walk on a slippery rock / faith is a grin on a dogs" (Edie Brickell and the recent Bohemians)

I am religous and philosophical and there is a BIG different. philosophy deals with code of conduct through life and the breakdown of existance to dwell in the glory of it. While science will break down existance to distort truth. That is like me breaking you down to a whole bunch of organs, tissue, and bonded molecules. Then we forget that you are still a human being and not some test subject. I am islamic and follow the buddhist teachings, so my belief can bugg a lot of people out. Like to believe that buddha did not believe in GOD is just perposterous to me. Because he believed in Vishnu and buddha himself was just one of many buddhas that were prophesied. And all prophecies come from a higher power. Not to the false belief that he took visnu as lord, but to the credibility they believe in GOD. I am half african american and chinese and I will not forsake my ancestors nor those of past who's land I walk. In Islam allah has 99+1 names. One of those names is as salam. Which is translated to THE PEACE. The GOD of buddha was and is THE PEACE. Common sense. He took PEACE as his GOD. Simple. If they say the GOD of buddha does not exist, most say that about my GOD.
There are large differences in philosophy and religion. Philosophy exists in every religion, but religion does not exist in philosophy unless the ones who follow a cretain doctrine says so. Because whatever they say must be true. Correct(sarcasm)? PEACE!

Philo -- love or have strong affection for
-sophy from sophia -- wisdom or skill
Comparing and contrasting philosophy and religion is an exercise in futility -- purely subjective.
