Convertibles had them in the front near the toe board, Hardtops and fastbacks had none. Theoretically you could weld some in. Might stiffen the chassis a bit.

I believe they're reinforcements at the front end of each of the rear leaf springs.

IF YOU AHVE AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION I ASSUME YOU ARE REFERRING TO THE TORQUE CONVERTOR WHICH IS IN THE BELLHOUSING IN FRONT OF THE TRANSMISSION
