A friend insisted I move in with her when I literally had no place else to go. I did have money and could have stayed in a hotel. But, no, she gave me a key, made up a bed for me and said, "Don't knock at the door, you live here now." It was only temporary and as I said, I did have money (not a fortune but enough) so I was not really a financial drain as far as food, toiletries, etc.
Thanks for asking. You reminded me to thank her again.
Oops, forgot the last part of your question. It made me feel relieved and safe, but most of all it made me feel as if there are some people you can always count on.

Through the years folks have done some really nice things for me. I guess the one that I remember best was the day I decided to canoe White River from the Bethesda dam to the Batesville dam. I almost made it to the Batesville bridge when I turned the canoe over. The current was much stronger than I thought it would be. I swam for the bank but the current just pulled me to the middle of the river. Finally someone in a bass boat saw me and rescued me and the canoe. I felt really grateful, I don't think I would have survived a ride over the dam.

one valentines day, I woke up to me being sick and my son and daughter being sick. Well my son threw up all down the side of my bed. I went to clean it, but everytime I tried I would get sick myself. So I asked my husband to do it before he left for work. Ha! yeah right, thats the answer I got. So I was talking to my friend on the phone about an hour later because our kids were in the same class, and she wondered why my daughter wasn't there and i told her all about it. After she picked her son up from school that day she came over with her cleaners and cleaned the vomit off my bed for me and used her own cleaners and she febreezed it. Now that is a TRUE friend, to come over and do something like that!

I remember after i had just had my daughter i was young and had no idea what to do once i got her home (husband had already gone back to work) and I had no sleep so my mother came over one day and told me to go rest and she would watch my daughter. When I woke up my whole house was spotless, dinner was cooking and my laundry had been all done. Not to mention the fact that my daughter was actually asleep and being an angel. I don't know how she did it all but I am so grateful to her for that one 2hr. nap that I got to take. She is my guardian angel!!

I was bidding on a house and got it, when I lost my job a week later. I was in tears because the house I was renting was sold and I had to move and had nowhere to go.
My boyfriend at the time had a small apartment and couldn't accommodate me, my 4 children and my mom. So, I told him I was going to move 3000 miles to stay with my dad for a while until I got it together.
Two days later, he called me up and said "I need you to meet me". When I got there I said "what's up" and he said "this is your house, I just bought it for you". "you're not leaving me"
To this day, it almost brings me to tears thinking about it. That was four years ago. Needless to say, we're engaged now, getting married next year.
Yeah, he's a keeper!

We bought a new house in May. I was teasing my best friend that it was the first house I'd ever lived that had room for a side by side refrigerator. Jokingly I told her I found one at Lowe's in the scratch and dent section. She was redoing her kitchen at the time so she asked me if I'd meet her up there so she could look at. When we got there, it was gone. But she bought me one anyway. I'll never forget that.

A co-worker loaned me money to fly home for my mom's funeral as I was totally tapped out at the time. Told me not to worry about paying it back until I could do so comfortably. That was 12 yrs ago and it still makes my heart warm because we weren't even friends, just co-workers.

When I was 16, my mother told her friend (in front of me) that my brother was her favorite child and that she loved both of her boys but she didn't really care for girls. I felt a relief because I thought all my life that it was my fault for the way she treated me. After hearing that, I knew that she was the one with issues. It truly changed my life in very positive way.

my first year going to college, my grandmother put up front $4,000 to help out. that was very special.
then once i was going through a very troubling period and my girlfriend knew it, but really didnt know b/c i didnt fully tell her what was going on. one day she happened to be in the park right across from my house and she called me up and asked me if i wanted to come out for some fresh air and i did. me and her spent about 2 hours just walking around the park talking and me spilling my guts. that was very special. i needed that exhale moment.

The best thing my dad did for me was teaching me good work ethic, responsibility, etc. with his lifestyle and his actions rather than his words. He started working for the school district that he was working for before he even met my mom (actually when he started, he was younger than I am now) and he stayed with it until just recently when he retired.
