Good presentation is the first thing. Secondly, make them feel like it is in their best interest to see things your way. Make it sound like a win win situation for them. People who have nothing to lose will buy into whatever it is you are selling or trying to persuade them to think. You can always grab this book: 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. Excellent read and will help you influence anyone.

You have to have something they want, need, or respect. That could be personality, wisdom, knowledge, confidence, leadership (often closely tied to personality and confidence) or something else they can profit from, of which includes money and sex appeal. The Bible speaks in Proverbs by saying "get wisdom, and with all your getting get understanding". In the same fashion with above list, 'with all your getting get passion'. Today, passion moves people. That could be a passionate anger or rage. That could be a compassionate empathy. That could be a competitive passion, such as is exhibited at serious sports events. That could be a driving passion for the person to do, say, or be his or her best. The first list connects, passion moves.
