I need to go to the doctor but I feel lousy.I dont want to sit in a room full of sick little kids. What I have is chronic,. what they have is contaigous probly .so if doctors cant make house calls I think they should have two waiting rooms one for people with colds flu ect and one for people with diabetes ,epilepsy anything that doesnt spread. What do you think.

The HMO spelled the death for the doctor's house call. When a doctor became just another paid employee they were forced to see 12+ patients a day.

If you are rich enough then you can get almost anything you want, including house calls.

Have you noticed UV lamps pointing up to the ceiling in hospital emergency rooms? They are there to kill airborne viruses. You could purchase a battery operated black light and do the same thing.

If you are contagious then you might consider asking the receptionist for a mask to wear. They probably won't have a space to put contagious patients that are waiting to be seen. Medical office space is pretty expensive. If not for the expense then your idea would be a good one.

Well, every time a doctor came to someone's house they would need a tractor trailer with everything they might need to treat you and a medical staff complete with laboratory to run tests or blood work including a portable x-ray machine and a lead lined room to safely use it in. That is not real practical now is it. Why don't you keep some gloves and a face mask ( paper kind) if you are worried about spreading what you have to others or catching theirs.
Every sick person that goes to a doctor has to touch the door knob to get in and leave so that means you can catch all the crap of the other 30 people before you not counting the pervert that is in love with the doctor and rubs his or her Willie all over the door handle when he/she cleans the office. Point is you don't know what or who has been on that door knob and I am not just talking at the doctors office. You had to get in the building didn't you and may have used the elevator think of the thousands of people that are in and out of a medical building on a daily basis and not just in your doctors office. A little gonorrhea a little syphilis some common colds a dab of herpes and food poisoning and the list goes on as you sit down in the same chairs they were in or right next to them.

Going to a doctors office is a very nasty thing and his/her hands may or may not have been washed even if they make house calls.

Hope this makes ya feel better and safer about the doctors office

The doctors's office I used to go to as child had 2 waiting rooms.
One for contagious symptoms and one for kids that just needed a check-up. Nowadays, they just don't give a darn if you get sick from the waiting room area or not.
A positive note for a specific Dr. I used 8 years ago for my son.
He was 6 weeks old and having trouble breathing, I called to make an appointment and they got me right in. The Dr. took a look at him and the DOCTOR drove us to the hospital!!!!
It''s a true story. She even put a $10 bill in my son's diaper bag because she new I was unprepared to have to go the the hospital. She also put a few bottled juices in the bag for my 3 year old daughter to have something to drink.
I wish ALL Drs. could be this service driven and compasionate!

I am a nurse and can tell you from first hand knowledge doctors are so busy rounding in the hospital, in their offices, they have no time to make housecalls. Health care is high tech and if you have some illness at home, such as say pneumonia, they do not have what they need to arrange Xrays or do blood work in your home. I can say they do make housecalls occasionally for pts who are dying and in hospice or for personal freinds.
My doctor has a waiting room for infections and one for healthy people who are visiting for a physical or examination for a non infectious reason. When you check in, the receptionist tells you which room to go to.
