We don't need to because there are also Asian Americans, Native Americans and the rest of the hyphenated Americans. Everyone left is a Euro so there is no label. Euros were the first settlers so anyone coming in would be labelled for example African Americans etc.

We usually use "African American" to talk about black people who are officially Americans. (Wikipedia:An African American (also Afro-American, Black American) is a member of an ethnic group in the United States whose ancestors, usually in predominant part, were indigenous to sub-Saharan Africa.)
There are also such terms as: European African or in Ukraine - Ukrainian African.
We use "Latin American" to say that someone came from one of the countries of Latin America or looks like these people . (Wikipedia:Latin America is the region of the Americas where Romance languages — those derived from Latin — are officially or primarily spoken)
As you can see these terms are not so related.
Term "European American" will mean that someone came to Europe from USA. It is senseless because then there must be much more new terms like: "American European", "Asian American", "American Asian", "American African", "Asian European", "European Asian" "African Asian" and don't forget about Australia. So I suppose that there is just no need in this terms:)

That is a very good question I don’t believe in labeling someone who is born in this country as blank – American etc. Unless your from a different country and come over and get citizenship.
I do agree that if we are going to label people then we need to label everyone so European-American. Then again many people are descent of more then one nationally you could be European and African , or European and middle eastern or African and Russian. etc
Bottom line if you’re born in America you are American regardless of where your ancestor’s home country or continent was.

Because the first two terms are used to distinguish minority groups from the majority of Americans. Perhaps in order to be fair, we should call everyone Americans or use two names for everyone.

People such as yourself I often wonder if you just bypass history; or just clueless. Based upon institutional racism, African slaves were called anything but the proper title. In as much, it was a self-defining moment when descendants of former slaves in America selected the term Afro-American; over the "N" word. Now today you ask a silly question?

Sometimes white people will say they are Italian-Amer, German-Amer, Russian-Amer, etc. What happens is that as whites assimilate they are accepted into the main stream and begin to lose their ethnicity.
Because of skin color, blacks, Latinos (a lot are black), Asians and Natives cannot blend into mainstream society. We embrace our ethnicity rather than beat ourselves up for having the uniqueness. It's funny how whites become us and then get mad when we embrace our uniqueness rather than feel miserable.
And as far as what Mary said, blacks have been in America from the beginning and as endentured servants at first, just like white people.

I would wonder that also, but what I really wonder is why we can't just all be Americans (well, if we are).
