According to the All Music Guide, "Secret Agent Man" was sung by many people, but I think Johnny Rivers is the person most commonly associated with the song. Here's the All Music Guide entry:
"Next to songs such as 'Dirty Water,' 'Satisfaction,' and 'Pushin' Too Hard,' 'Secret Agent Man' is truly one of the songs that was practically required reading of any garage band worth their salt, from 1966 to the present. For this alone, it deserves special mention. The song was written and used for the Secret Agent television program. P.F. Sloan's fabulously simple and effective lead guitar riff is the glue that holds the whole thing together. Based on a bluesy riff, Sloan crossed this with an almost modal, folk-jazz feel and created an absolutely classic riff. Lyrically, there is almost a sense of parody (re: James Bond), yet there is a toughness that renders the whole thing a success. Aside from being a hit by Johnny Rivers, the song has been covered by dozens of artists, and Rivers' version was used in the first Austin Powers film. Stone classic."
