It is not in fact 'D' but A: Antecedent.
Look Antecedent up in Wikipedia:
"In grammar, an antecedent is the word to which a pronoun refers"
An 'Object' can be a noun or a pronoun, but that is not the name of what a pronoun REFERS to.

The only thing that makes sense is A, the antecedent but you really should look it up in the index and find it in the book before you answer it since you've gotten so many different answers--especially ones you didn't ask for.
Antecedent--the word, phrase, or clause that a relative pronoun refers to. The "grammar queen" is wrong.

It is the antecedent. If you say, "every student should take his books home at night," then STUDENT is the antecedent to HIS. That is why there is the rule about the pronoun matching the antcedent in number. You would say, "all students should take their books home at night." Students is plural and so is their. Students is the antecedent to their.
This is confusing to many people. Hope this helps.
