Griese played on some powerhouse Dolphin teams and was efficient enough. He did not have to carry so much of the load because the running game with Czonka, Kiick, and Morris was terrific, the offensive line was terrific, and the defense was outstanding as well. Marino played on mostly (except his rookie year when the Dolphins went to the SB and lost) teams without the run-pass balance needed to normally be a contender. Marino has exceptional stats that put him in the HOF. Griese is also in the HOF. Of these two, I think you would have to pick Marino as the best. It is unfortunate that the did not have the talent around him that Griese had.

It's hard to say which one was better, because Griese was on a team that needed a game manager, of which Bob was one of the best. Marino would have been horrible in that system. However, Dan was far better suited to be a gunslinger than Griese ever could be. You can't compare the numbers of a guy who threw 12-15 passes a game with Mercury Morris, Jim Kiick, and Larry Czonka in the backfield against a guy who threw 40 balls a game with Sammie Morris as the featured back. Marino was asked to do more, and did it, but we'll never know whether Griese could have done more because he never had to.

I would say Dan Marino, because of the all time touchdown record, the amount of yards he amassed while playing (on some sub-par teams, too), and the leadership he gave the Dolphins for over 10 years. But...Bob Griese had the perfect season...and a Super Bowl ring to boot.

Bob Griese couldn't carry Marino's jockstrap, but Montana's the best. From a 49er hater.

Lets just put it like this Bob Griese is nothing compared to Marino. Marino is and if not the greatest QB to touch a football. And no he didn't winn a championship but thats not his fault its the head offices fault.

Not even close, Marino.
From my memory from the 70s, Griese would throw maybe 15 times a game and mostly hand the ball off to Csonka, Kiick, Morris, etc.
