Most CIsco certifications last 2 years. You will have to stay current on education and retest to keep your certification valid.

Once you get into the industry you will find that the knowledge is more important than the certification. People tend to get re-certified for the sake of professionalism and marketing purposes however if you are working in the industry, the certification expiration date is not an issue.
