It's all great for Blacks to have Black Pride, "It's a Black thing, you wouldn't understand", Black entertainment channels & "urban" radio stations, but yet if any Caucasians are proud of who they are (NOT being white supremacists, but just having pride about whatever white background they have) they are labeled racists. Why do these double standards exist?

It's called reverse discrimination and minorities can never achieve true equality until they learn not to discriminate themselves.

I've debated on Equal Opportunity quotas with minority friends in the past where I express my belief that there is no need for percentages (such as percentage of minorities in managerial positions) if you strengthen the process of hiring/promoting the BEST qualified regardless of race. They point out they still want their percentages in place to make sure these positions are filled equally to match the racial population. I then concede to them... but tell them they'll have to loose some of their favorite NBA players to make room for more caucasion players to match the racial population. Now THEY have a problem with the percentages!

Until all races realize that race should never be a factor, neither pro nor con, can we begin the true healing and work toward true equality. Until then, we are merely shifting the discrimination around!

Can you be specific, I do not understand. I am a minority but I am tired of hearing so many cuacasians saying they can't do this or that!! What are you talking about exactly? The last time I heard this argument was when some cuacasian guy was trying to argue for his right to support the (damn, what you call those people w/ the white cone hats) You guys know what I mean.

Ok...all you thumbs down, let me be more clear. This actually really happened on campus, I was not joking. Everytime I hear a White Pride thing, it's a white supremacists thing. About how everyone else "should go back to their own country".

The reason why Blacks have a Black thing, is because what they went through with slavery, blah blah blah, it's the past, but the past always comes back to get you. You reap what you sow. Well, when Africans were forced here and stripped of their identity, culture, and family, they had to create a different culture. A Black culture, Black music, etc. There is nothing wrong with it, slavery has passed, but the pain and rebuilding is still there. The Black community is still trying to find a way to cope and rebuild a broken community and culture.

As for the WHITES, white supremists wanted to overcome all minority and races by throwing away its culture and becoming one. The only way to celebrate that IS celebrating WHITE SUPREMISTS. Sorry that's reality. And it's sad that there are still people out there that support this bull s***. The only people this land belonged to are the Native Americans!! For the rest of us, we can only live in peace if we learn to live together, not fight each other's race. So instead of trying to raise more "White" power, let's try to learn to be more culturally tolerant and respectful. Get educated instead of putting down other people's culture.

Pride is a by-product of an accomplishment or decision, therefore pride of ones race or ethnic background is ridiculous at best. Be proud of your personal accomplishments and good decisions you have made in your life to better yourself not of things you can't control such as your race or ethnic background. I could not care less about ones race, what i care about is how they are as human beings and how they treat others.

In other word I don't care if BET exists or Spanish language channels exist, what matters is that that everyone treats each other with respect and has respect for ones self. If you want White cannels on tv all you have to do is turn to virtually any cannel and you will get it. If there was a market for a White supremacist channel it would already exist.

I don't have any problem with white people being proud of their race.

BET was created because there was a void in black entertainment on the other channels. On the major networks there still is a void of t.v. shows and characters of not only blacks, but other minorities as well. The Latinos have their own television stations also because it caters to their culture.

Do you object to Lifetime or the Oxygen stations that are geared towards women? Or how about getting rid of religious stations since they are geared to only towards Christians? And those cable conservative news stations are geared towards White's conservative agendas.

What you see in the media is geared towards whites, so you take it for granted. I guarantee that you would want a station dedicated to whites if you lived in Kenya and all the t.v. shows had black characters and cultural references.

Also a lot of "white pride" groups are racist. And you don't understand the "black thing" if you had to ask this question.

well im mixed with black and white, and personally i dont agree with the black entertainment televisions and what not, because there is a double standard there...i think its more offensive for a white person to be "proud" rather than a black person. its almost like its ok for black people to do it because they're been through so much, so they deserve to be proud because they are strong people, where as a white person, people may ask what do you have to be proud about, being white is the most privileged race there is...i guess it depends on how you look at. i dont like the double standard either but at the same time, if a white person came out with White Television, id probably get a little scared lol i thinks its a common opinion that black ppl are more acceptin, they arent sayin this radio station is just for us, they're sayin this is our music, take a listen, where as a white person may just want white listeners...im going to stop rambling now, but i guess we'll never know

Double standards, unfortunately, will very likely always exist. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your hertiage, not matter what it is. It's too bad some people take that the wrong way and put labels on others.

it's just like double standards of what is OK for men to do but women are labeled derrogatory terms for doing the exact same thing

it's like nurturing a girl to fully express her emotions without any negative connotation but telling a boy to suck it up, boys don't cry and all that other macho bullsh^t that I think makes most men insensitve as$holes

but as far as your issue with double standards in regards to racial pride, I think the reason it's such a touchy issue in the USA and whites are accused of being racist for expressing their pride is because of the history of this country

I saw Carlos Mencia last weekend and he made a very good point during his show that I think makes a lot of sense. The pilgrims came over and supposedly could not figure out how to plant corn and grow their own crops to survive so the "indians" had to do it for them. But caucasians had survived for thousands of years on the European continent so they knew what to do with a seed! They just figured let's play dumb and let them do it for us. Then they raped pillaged and killed off most of the "indians" so when their supply of free labor was gone they started bringing Africans to pick up the slack. The current immigration issue and the "problem" with illegal immigration started during the civil rights movement in the 60's because blacks essentially quit doing the nasty jobs whites made them do. When the blacks said I won't do this anymore, the Latinos stepped up and took over and started the flood that continues to this day.

This, I believe, is what fuels the fire of bigotry, it started with the first caucasians to arrive on this continent. They saw these "barbaric" and "uncivilized" people and felt superior to them, not realizing that their customs and culture were something to respect and honor.

That is too right! I think its about power. The world is run by white people. To keep it this way these people have divised clever ways to make it appear that the system is democratic and everyone has the same chances. So all this political correctness is to fool the average person on the street. Those who have power keep it and everyone is happy, some with power and some with the false sensation of freedom because they get a black radio station!

Because the majority of society in the past has been created for Caucasians. If someone is insecure with their race and needs to tell people they have "Black/Brown/White Pride" they probably don't. Don't get hung up on this. Live your life and let people do whatever makes them happy as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

Being black i don't have a problem with white people being proud of their background. Most people don't bother Irish Americans, or Italian Americans and the like and accuse them of being racist. Be proud of your heritage and respect everybody else's. And white people have channels and radio stations it's called all the other channels and radio stations. Also, depending on where you live other groups have radio stations that cater to their backgrounds.

If I were white, I'd hate to have a past thats full of dumb people who couldn't do nothing but whip and rape Human beings to get something done. That's a lazy ancestry to be proud of. Be proud of yourself as an individual. Not for being white, because truly when I study history, it is one messed up event to another when dealing with the White man.
