Paint your nails with clear nail polish and while the clear nail polish is still wet, apply a powdered spice like pepper, something really potent, and let the nail polish dry.
Everytime you go to bite on your nails, you will taste the pepper and it will be an instant reminder.
It is good to use the nail polish so that the substance can't wash off. Be careful that you do not get the substance in your eyes.

Paint them, constantly. I use to bite my nails all the time, then realized that I bite them a lot less to not at all when I wore nail polish. Sure, it doesnt taste bad, but if you spend all that time making sure that your nailpolish is done just right, you don't want to ruin it by chewing them up. On top of that, keep them cut short. With nothing to chew on... well, you can't chew them.
Plus, a good self-manicure is always nice, relaxing, and gives you an excuse as to why you haven't cleaned the kitchen yet.

My suggestion is that you can start looking to become more aware of the psychology of your habit. Check:

My sis-in-law is as bad a nailbiter as I am. She just started taking care of her nails. Filing, clipping and painting them and now she hardly bites them because she doesn't want to ruin the work of taking care of them.

My dear, that is nothing to worry about. I have that problem too, but it is an anxiety symptom. We have an ailment called Trichotillomania. People with this ailment are considered very intelligent, but also suffer from anxiety. Other symptoms are pulling hair or eyelashes. Just be glad that yours are not those. I have seen people with pulling hair problem and they really suffer.
