I've had Norton Internet Security for a year and a half now. During that time, I've had a total of about five warnings of attacks on my computer being blocked. Now, suddenly with less than 30 days left to renew it, I've had four or five popups alerting me to blocked attacks. What is Norton trying to do, scare me into renewing?

i hate norton products but if i had to guess is that your not really being attacked its just a generic scan aka ping someone looking over the web for open holes and security breaches. the risk of attack is higher today then it has been in years so i would recommend switching to Trend Micros internet sercurity www.antivirus.com been using it for years and i love it no problems and it blocks the attckes without saying anything it just does its job. it also has a smaller memory foot print so that your computer performance is not hindered.

Definitely not, there could be other reasons, i don't Find Norton to provide best security anymore i'd rather suggest you to switch to kaspersky internet security or TrendMicro pc-cillin internet security which is totally awesome

This time of year is one of the higher-activity times of year traditionally. The kids are back in school and they're trying to show off and out-hack each other. You see the same spike in activity in late June once they've been on summer break for a while and they're starting to get bored, and usually the last 2 weeks of summer too, so they can get one good "brag" in before they go back to school. You're probably seeing more spam right around then, too.

I'd uninstall Nortan and use a different antivirus program. There's a free antivirus program you can use for 60 days no charge if you want to use it while you are getting a new program. More info can be found about this program here:

www.avast.com

It's called avast antivirus. It's available in free form for 60 days as a full demo. If you want to use it you have to either regester for the home edition (which is free), the pro version (paid) or get a different antivirus program...

I really doubt that they are scaring you into renewing their product.

I would recommend switching to another product though, Norton uses too many resources(slows down your computer) and they really don't keep your computer as secure as many other programs out there.

I would recommend using Zone Alarm as a Firewall/Internet Security program. They have a free Firewall available for download(http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/catalog/products/sku_list_za.jsp?dc=12bms&ctry=US&lang=en&lid=nav_za), or you can buy their complete suite(which is moderately priced as far as it goes).

It's quick and thorough, and pretty easy to install.

Good luck.

Obviously, it's Norton. Couldn't possibly be that someone hit your computer and that Norton worked.

I'm not impressed with Norton.
After talking with several techs at HP and AT&T, they all (during separate conversations) said my choosing TrendMicro PC-Cillin was a good choice.
