I don't let them upset me anymore as I just ignore them now, but when they know you are having your first baby, some of them just delight in telling you horror stories and trying to frighten you.

You can see the 'mad' gleam in their eyes as they regale you with stories of how their baby 'came out sideways and weighed 200lb and they needed 80000 stitches and 70 million pints of blood...

How do they sleep at night? Probably they are so boring that having a baby was the only interesting thing they ever did and they don't care who they traumatise as long as it gains them a pittance of attention for 3 minutes...

The more they crave a reaction the more I ignore them! Any inspiring stories of labour and childbirth I wonder?

I'm getting a bit more nervous now as the big day approaches!

and of course I'm not being 'ignorant' bcz I've heard the stories from women who really did have long, difficult labours but the difference is in how they are either telling a genuine story - or trying to scare you for shock value. Thank you for the kind answers. just over 2 months till my son is born! :)

I know what you mean! I have had three children and the stories can be just straight from a horror show. I think women everywhere share the stories because it will mentally prepare you for the worse. All three of my birth were different yet similar. The long story is expect pain child birth is called labor because it is work and exhausting! The second you see, hear and hold your child the pain and work becomes a distant memory....the joy of seeing your child heals you. In some cases stitch removal makes it better. I think it takes 9 months so you finally just get so uncomfortable you want it out. Good luck hope you have a short labor just remember billions have done it

Yes, it hurts, but it is really not that bad. Also, use the drugs they offer. Many people use medial issues for something to talk about. Take is easy. Enjoy the end of your pregnancy. Do not worry. My labour lasted 3 and a half hours, it hurt, but it was bearable. My baby was 7 pounds 9 ounces, but didn't come out sideways. You have the ability to do this. You'll get through it.

I feel you! That happened to me when I was pregnant with my babies too. I just ignored them when I was pregnant and now when they do it to someone, I cut them off and start telling a good story. Then I tell them not to do that. I always tell the good stories and encourage them to think positive. That's half the battle during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. I don't even remember the pain.

Don't be nervous. If this is something you wanted, just look forward to your sweet baby that's coming and how much you're going to be in love with him/her. It's so awesome! I cried as soon as I saw my two and each time I've been in the delivery room with friends. It's a beautiful thing!

Don't worry about the horror stories, I'm sure you'll do great. Congratulations, I know you'll have a beautiful baby!
