I was married in Wyoming and divorced in Utah. I have been divorced for two years and want to restore my maiden name on all my personal records (including social security). How do I go about doing this when it was not stated in my divorce decree that my maiden name could be reinstated?

You can go to your local courthouse and pay about $175 to get your name changed to anything you want. It doesn't have to be court ordered to do so!

You could a) Go to the court and have it legally restored or b) See what the common usage laws a re like (although that takes at least 5 years of exclusive use of the name and a demonstrable paper trail of it.)

Have your name changed through the court system. There's a fee for changing your name that varies from state to state, I believe. Your local county courthouse should have the paperwork to get it going.

You will have to go to the courthouse and pay to have your name legally changed. Had you did it in the divorce, it would not have cost you.

Don't know if there are kids, but changing your name doesn't change their name.

Otherwise it is real easy, just file the paperwork and pay the fee.
