It sounds like you have installed the pvc pipe without using compression fittings. These are fittings that compress in between a threaded and non threaded pipe. Lowes or Home Depot has these.

First thing you don't solder metal pipes to plastic pipes like some on said. You cut metal pipes and us a compression fitting to go from copper/ brass to plastic, then use pvc glue ( unless this is just a drain pipe) for the rest.

I agree with Duke1414 - since it is a drainage pipe, its not required to be pressurized tight like a supply line. Make sure you have new compression fittings. In order for those compression fittings to work properly, you need to make sure that the pvc pipes are lined up with one another. If they are shoved in at an angle, that could cause a void allowing water to leak.

Read Duke's answer. I think he has it right. The compression fittings are round "plastic" (beveled) o-ring that fits or slides on the pipe (un threaded piece) after the round nut is placed on the pipe. Upon installation the compression fitting (no threads needed) slides up to meet the connecting pipe (threaded piece) and sits between the nut and the threaded pipe and seals upon tightening the nut.

sounds like your missing the trap adaptor.. its a compresion fitting that goes above the trap and has a nut a plastic sleeve to compress the tailpiece from the sink drain. you will want to get an 1-1/2 trap adapter as the ones for bathroom sink is a smaller size most of these answers were correct just not enuff info for you..

___Here's a quick tip___

Check the joints and be sure you've applied a pipe sealant around each end to the next PVC pipe...then attach and tightened.

Good luck and keep smiling,
