Sounds way too much like hymen for my taste.

I don't know any Jewish people personally, in Australia the only Jewish folk I've heard of are the second richest man in Aust and a disgraced gold mine owner who has since skipped the country on charges of fraud.

It was all said: Hymie is an ethnic slur for Jews.
It is based on the nickname "Hymie", which is a pet form of "Hyman", which is, for itself, a Yiddisher form of the Hebrew name "Hayim" (means: life).

"Hymie" is a very common name among the European Jews and it became a typical "name" for Jews. It is just like if one was to call an Arab guy "Ahmad", an Italian guy "Tony" and a Greek guy "nick".

It's not a nickname, it's more of an ethnic slur. Hymie is short for the fairly common name, Hyman. It's like calling all Irish Mick, for Michael -or Paddy.

the only person I knew with the name "Jaime" (pronounced hie-me) was a Hispanic boy I taught. it's a real name, by the way, not just a nickname.

That's an ethnic slur, like 'mick' for an Irishman or 'wop' for an Italian.
