I was wondering if I continue breasfeeding to my 1 year old, would my baby (I am 4 weeks pregnant) get the nutrients also from my body?
I won't have the chance to see any doctor for the moment.

My wife breast fed one child while she was pregnant without a problem. For breast feeding questions try the link below.

You know, a lot of people, even doctors, will tell you to stop breastfeeding, but I've heard from many doctors who don't believe it's necessary. The advice to stop may be the product of a culture that doesn't embrace breastfeeding and more or less interprets any difficulty as a reason to quit breastfeeding altogether.
I really think that you should consult a doctor about this, or better yet, because not all doctors are as pro-breastfeeding as they should be, find a lactation consultant. If it's insurance that is keeping you from seeing a doctor, then finding a La Leche League chapter in your phonebook may be even better.
You can keep breastfeeding. Although, at 1 year old, your child could be weaned as well.

There is absoutley nothing wrong with breast feeding while you are pregnant with another child. Many women breast feed their toddlers and their new babies at the same time. There is no harm involved. Check out the web site below. My mom nursed my sister while she was pregnant with my brother. While she said it was hard at times, my sister weaned herself before the new baby arrived. If you are still unsure, wait and ask your doctor when you go or try to call and ask for a return phone call before your next appointment.

BREASTFEEDING WHILE PREGNANT
Question: "I am nursing my 18-month old and just found out I am pregnant. My friend told me it is dangerous to breastfeed while pregnant, but I have also heard it is safe. What is your advice?"

Answer: This was a topic of debate many years ago. It used to be felt that breastfeeding while pregnant can steal important nutrients from the fetus and can increase the risk of miscarriage. Now we know that this is not true. Many research studies have demonstrated no nutritional risk to the fetus, and no increased risk of miscarriage. I encourage pregnant moms to continue to breastfeed as long as they want to.

Also check out www.lalecheleague.org they have pages of info on this subject. And good luck!

make sure that you're getting enough nutrition for all of you. Your body will give to the baby first, breastmilk 2nd and you will get it last. In fact, your body will take your stored nutrients (such as calcium and iron) from your muscles and bones if you're not getting enough in your diet. You're not at danger, but do watch for signs such as cramping when you nurse. If you experience that you may want to stop nursing or contact a doctor especially if it's accompanied by any spotting. Nipple stimulation (nursing) triggers uterine contractions after birth to help return the uterus to its size, so watch for that particular symptom.
Now is a good time to gradually begin weaning your 1 yr old, as your milk will be changing over the next few months and baby may decide that it tastes bad. They are also able to get nutrition from more sources now since they can eat most foods, discuss with the pediatrician if you can't see your OB to ask. I have a 15 month old that I am trying to wean gradually, right now he's down to breakfast, naptime and bedtime (and middle of the night if he wakes up) but I do plan on getting pregnant in the next few months so I hope he's further along in his weaning by then!

You can continute to BF your 1 year old as long as you want. Your body knows how much milk to produce to accomidate both children(when the new baby is born) As for now, you'll be fine continuing to BF as well because your baby gets nutrients from your blood, even if you aren't taking enough in, the baby will take what your body produces.

As long as you are taking your prenatal vitamins(if you don't have the script for them yet, get some children's vitamins and take 2 per day) and eating healthy then it's perfectly fine to continue to breastfeed your 1 year old as long as you want to.

Good luck, congratulations and good for you for extendedly breastfeeding.

You don't need to quit breastfeeding unless you feel uncomfortable untill 4 to 6 weeks before delivery. Yourcolosterum will not start building untill then. Now then I have know some of my mommy friends that kept right on breastfeeding up to the due date and the second did just fine.

It can cause a possible miscarraige and any child over 12 months old is too old to be breast feeding! Goto the sippy cup with a soft nipple. You are also robbing your fetus(baby in womb) important nutrients and depleting even more calories, like the other answer person said you need more nutrients and calories when pregnant. You can also deplete your body of calcium as well causing your teeth to deteriate

I just read through the answers to your question and I do remember hearing about the contracting of the uterus and causing misscarriage. I would think you would want to stop breastfeeding your one year old soon anyways. The sooner the better then you won't have such a fight when you start bf your next baby!

Why would you want to breastfeed your child if they are 1 year old?? They are getting all their nutrients in the solids they eat and they should be on cow's milk by now...

Why would you even risk that being 4 weeks pregnant? Your child already on this earth does not need your milk anymore, that baby growing inside you needs everything from you!!

You can continue to nurse your one year old it will not cause problems. But the milk will change and your one year old may reject it. Late in pregnancy it can cause contractions if your one year is still nursing vigoursely. Go to the library and get 'The Breastfeeding Answer Book' also see if you can find a local chapper of LLL( La Leche League ) to join they can answer may of your questions and give you the support you need.

As long as your body is not depleted, both babies should be fine. Some babies stop nursing when a momma gets preg. because the milk changes. Just make sure you get nutrients because both babies will be taken care of way before your needs are considered.
