OK, the facts. In the last year Windows has been patched a lot of times for security issues. But most have been within Windows itself, not just IE. So switching to Firefox will not do anything for the Windows issues, only the IE issues. Firefox has also had several security patches released in the last year. So it is not any more secure.
That said, because fewer people use Firefox, the people attacking the computers are writting their attacks for the 95% IE users, not the 5% Firefox users. So the FF users get a break. A vulnerability is found, somebody attacks it in IE, FF sees the issues and patches it in FF before anyone attacks through FF. So there is an advance security wish to using it. Plus I just like it better.
As most spyware and adware is attached to downloads and then installed by the user, FF has not more protection against them then IE. You can still download and install a spyware just as well through either browser.
Also, Firefox does not run activeX scripts. That is an advanced because it can prevent some unwanted programs from running on your PC. Firefox does not run activeX scripts. That is a disadvantage, because it keeps some wanted programs from running on your PC, so you sometimes have to use IE on some web sites (such as - surprise - microsoft.com). About 5% of websites do not work right with FF.
Still, I have been a FF user since it first appeared and will probably continue to use it. Give it a try, and if you do not like, it still have the Big Blue E on your desktop to go back to.

Internet Explorer is the BEST (use auto-update future)..... in addition to this
try using Norton Anti-virus Protection or Panda Titanium 2006 these are the best Anti-virus + Firewall right now ps: I strongly suggest u that never ever download and use any of those FREE Anti-virus progs cus most of 'em are viruses anyways and the reason they give 'em for free to collect your personal information such as your e-mail addresses and stuff then sell 'em to the 3rd parties and thats how u get all those JUNK e-mails

I think you should consider Internet Explorer to be the Most Patched and therefore the most secure browser. Others are less often attacked, because so few people use them, so it's less likely for holes to be discovered.
My server logs show that at least 85% of my visitors use Internet Explorer.
