Midway is much closer. You can take a train downtown or drive. There are many lines that leave right from the airport to downtown. Ohare has a lot more options they are the international airport. but depending on what time of day you are getting in it could take you an hr or two just get downtown.

The L from Midway is about 30 minutes. The L from O'Hare is around 45 minutes. The park formerly known as Meigs field was practically in downtown, but it has been bulldozed. During rush hours a cab could take an hour+ from either airport.

Most airlines fly from their hubs to both airports. (Though United recently stopped flying to MDW, and Southwest has never flown to O'hare)

Or if you decide to walk, you can take the O'Hare air train out to long term parking and then meander on down to the loop in about 5-6 hours. From Midway you can exit thorugh the parking garage and get there in 2-3 hours.

That would be Midway Airport and you can catch the Orange Line El train there at the outside of the terminal and that will take you right into the downtown area.

Midway is a bit closer, but there is not a big difference.

The airport will be dictated by the airline. For example, Southwest only serves Midway and almost all flights at Midway are Southwest.

United only serves O'Hare. There are very few American, Delta or Northwest flights at Midway, although I think there are a few.

Midway airport is a whole lot closer. Midway isn't as small as it is said to be. Southwest might have a hub there but other airlines fly there too. American and United canceled flights to Midway this year. Airtran has Midway as a secondary airport with flights to many places too. Frontier, Northwest, Continental, ATA and Delta make flights here too.

Midway is closer to downtown (about 10 miles). O'Hare has more airlines flying to it , though.

Midway and O'Hare are your best bets. O'Hare has more international flights by far (scratch that, more flight period) but is closer to the North side, I think. Midway is closer to downtown.
