I am going to see when I can schedule a date for artificial insemination. Cause me and my hunnie want a baby. We tried for almost 3 years. We have been togther going on 4 years already. And I just wanted to get your opionion about this. How long do you think it will take to make an appointment? And when I do it, what will I have to do? Will I have to be on bed rest.? Will I have to do something at all or will they just do it and see the chances of getting pregnant? And what if we do do it and I don't get pregnant still? What other options do I have.? Would that mean that I just can't have babies? Can someone help me......Please...I'm so confused and stressed out about this all....I can't take it anymore....

It all depends on what kind of doctor you are going to see. If you have been trying for 3 years and haven't succeeded, you really need to be seeing a reproductive endocrinologist. They are much more experienced in dealing with infertility than your average OB/GYN.

It took me about 3 months to get an appointment after getting a recommendation to an RE from my family doctor. Before they go to artificial insemination (it's acutally called intrauterine insemination, or IUI for short), they will try to figure out why you have not been able to get pregnant. 1/3 of cases, it is a male factor, meaning there is a problem with sperm count or quality. 1/3 of cases it is a female factor, such as blocked tubes, not ovulating, endometriosis, or a number of other things. And 1/3 of cases it is problems with both the male & female. About 10% of cases, the cause is unexplained.

Artificial insemination or IUI is really only useful in cases where there is a problem getting the sperm to the egg. This could be due to a low sperm count, bad quality sperm, or cervical mucous that is hostile to sperm (too acidic) for example. If none of these are the reason why you're not getting pregnant, all the IUI's in the world are not going to help.

This is why it is very important to see a doctor who specializes in infertility (like an RE) and get a diagnosis as to what is causing your infertility. Once you know what the problem is, you can go about finding a solution! Good Luck!!

What they did w/ me was, 1st they will test your husbands sperm count, mobility, etc.. then if that comes back ok they will start testing you they will shoot dye in you fallopian tubes to make sure they are not clogged, do a postcoital test which sees if you & hubby are compatible-which just means that you have sex in the morning then go to the dr office & they will see if your body rejected his sperm or accepted it. they will probably start you on clomid, they will check to see if you ovulate by either or all having you take your basil body temp getting ovulation predictor kits or getting you blood drawn every month that will tell them if you ovulated or not. there is alot of things that they will do esp. if you are seeing a fertility specialist instead of a og/byn which I would highly recommend. don't be stressed out that will cause you not to get pg also. & don't jump into invitro just yet that is like 10,000 dollars a month try the cheaper ways first. we did interuterine insemination this last time for about 5 months but it didn't work for me but it is only $300 a month. but we do have a 5 year old & I took clomid & had every test imaginable on me & the last test was a laporoscopy which is just exploritory surg. & they come back & said nothing at all was the matter w/ me they didn't know why I wasn't getting pg. that I was an unexplained infertility & then 2 months later I was pg. found out on our 5 year wedding anniversary, but we had been together for 12 years by then. so we were very excited & I ended up having a woderful pregnancy w/ no problems at all they all thought I would deliver early but I was actually 2 days late.

Usually once you have made your initial appointment with your fertility doctor, your follow-up appointments are on an as-needed basis (following your body's schedule). At your first appointment, they will do a medical history and a complete physical on you and a medical history and a semen analysis on your husband. They probably won't schedule any procedures until they have ruled out any obvious problems.

After they have decided that you are a candidate for AI, you will take ovulation induction medication to produce a large number of follicles. Once your follicles are mature, you will give yourself an HCG shot causing your follicles to rupture and release your egg for fertilization. Around 36 hours after you take your shot, you will be inseminated. It is not painful. It's kind of like getting a pelvic examination. You are asked to remain lying down for about 15 minutes. After that you can go home and continue with normal activities.

If you don't get pregnant after one round of AI, your doctor will discuss your chances and options with you. Depending on the reasons behind your infertility, your options can vary from AI to IVF to adoption.

Keep your chin up though. 80% of couples conceive after one year and most couples conceive after visiting their feritility doctor. Tell your doctor of your concerns and I'm sure that he/she will give you a large amount of reading material to educate yourself. After a few visits and treatments, you become your own 'expert'. Good Luck.

Well my mother and father tried to get prgnant for 5 years the doctor told my mother that she couldn't have kids. After the 5th year my mother popped up with my older sister. Three years after that my mother had me. So I don't think that a baby is something to rush take your time and keep trying. However if you really want the baby now then I think that you should get tested to see if your body is capable of conceiving

You mentioned you are stressed out. It is difficult to get preganant when you are under such stres. Especially of getting pregnant. Calm down and relax.. that could be the very problem you are having for not getting pregnant.
When the time is right I assure you, if no other medical problems, you should have no problem getting pregnant.
Good Luck. it does not hurt to discuss this all with your doctor.
