I had a friend clear my hard drive ( I know I'm stupid) now I can't figure out how to put an operating system back on. That's about all the details I have right now.

If it's a Windows-based system, get a CD-ROM boot disk or a new copy of Windows. Your machine should look to the CD drive as part of it's boot-up process. The disk will have the OS needed to start the machine until you can load it onto the hard drive.
And, next time, make up a boot disk and keep it somewhere safe, just in case.

Get the operating system installation CDs, put disc 1 in the drive, reboot the computer, and follow the prompts.
