I have been to peoples houses where they have automated, outward swinging, gates. Just make sure there is room for a large car to be safely off the road while the gates swing open in front of it. If so then go for it.

If you use ram type actuators you would have to fit them on the outside, as they can only pull the gates. But if you use in ground units they are normaly reversible and can go either way. I have fitted Combi 740 from BPT amongst others.

You probably can, but you would have to remember not to get too close when opening.
