people who believe that would be good are probably the same people who criticized us for not responding quickly enough when the Tsunami hit. Doesn't matter what we do - good or bad - we'll be criticized for it.

A fascinating reality is that the countries and people complaining about America are countries that have benefited from our assistance. We helped for years with Afghanistan during the Russian occupation. They were so grateful they crashed planes into our buildings and killed thousands of our people. I wouldn't lose a minute of sleep if the United State became more isolationist.

The U.S. tried to practice isolationism following WWI. Except for some millitary outposts in places like the Phiilipines and Guam the U.S tried to stay out of world affairs. Even when Germany broke the Versailles (sp?) Treaty, by amassing millitary armament, we refused to get involved.
The rest is history!

The US should take care of their own first; once the American people are taken care of (good jobs, health insurance, etc.) then by all means they may offer assistance to other countries, but NOT until then! As far as the US being an isolationist country, it sounds good, but it will never happen until the global economy goes belly-up.

it's not humanitarian aid. i don't know was it a good idea to support S Hussein when he was committing his worse atrocities? was it a good idea to overthrow a democratically elected government in Iran and impose upon the Iranian people a dictator? was it a good idea to back the Duvalier regime in Haiti and force back the refugees that were fleeing from the brutal conditions imposed upon them? there is a really really really long list.

You rather stay out of interfering worldwide especially with your actual President Mr. Bush! What allows you to talk bad about Switzerland! Clean up your country first (loads to do) before taking any actions abroad!

Yes, it would be good.
There are times to get involved... but there are times to keep our nose out, too. We have done nothing but stick our nose in for way too long.
It's time for America to start taking care of Americans. There are far too many people in this "amazing" country that can't even afford medical treatment, yet Bush spends billions on his stupid war.

Total isolationism may be unhealthy, but on the flipside, I don't hear about other countries messing with Switzerland or France. Maybe neutrality isn't so bad afterall. We sure aren't winning any friends this way.

I don't think we should stop our humanitarian efforts. I just think that we should stop trying to "remodel" the world into a mirror image of our own corrupted and failing democracy.
