I think in most cases, history repeats itself. Things like single parenthood, drug and alcohol use, education, criminal activity, etc. are all passed down by parents. Most of us do what we saw our parents do - whether we do it conciously or not. Although some people make bad/stupid choices, I think we all learn from what we see and sometimes our choices are shaped by that. It's the process of conditioning - it's natural to all life on Earth. People only know what they see. So if they see their parents making bad choices, chances are, they'll do the same. So to answer your question, I do think people are (for the most part) predisposed to the way their lives turn out.

People make their own choices in life. If you proceed to live a negative life and do not change the way it should be in a positive way, most likely they will end up suffering the consequences. Some people don't know better because of how they were raised as a child with no guidance nor discipline. People who were brought up in an unstabled, dysfunctional environment and with emotional unstability tend to grow up in choosing a negative life because that is the only thing they know as a child, i.e drugs, abuse, etc. But it is only up to you as an adult to make the choices you choose as an adult. Good things will happen if making the right choices.

I think they don't know any better. It's also really hard to break bad habits sometimes.
I'm a health care professional, and I think if everyone ate right and exercised I'd have to change my job. There wouldn't be enough patients.
Part of the problem is that humans are not robots. We don't act based only on intelligence and reason. Emotion gets in the way.
I think maturity and perspective play a role as well. If I could go back in time and avoid some of the mistakes I made...
The key is to keep moving forward, with sense of humor intact.

No, but some people don't have a purpose in life. That's a destruct, not a construct. Some people with a purpose, that is destructive to others will self destruct eventually. Many people take steps they don't plan or think through and that can cause ruin. People don't wake up and say, well I'm going to ruin my life, so my answer is a definite no.

This is a difficult question to answer, there are so many variables. Some people suffer from a mental illness, such as depression or bi-polar disorder. Many times their lives are not good, as they can't make good decisions. Some people suffer from substance abuse, there usually a predisposition to addictions in their families. They also don't make good decisions. And, there are some people that are just too frightened to make changes, even if things are not good. the unknown is a scary thing, and sometimes it is easier to not change, even if things are bad. I hope this didn't confuse you more.

I think because they are misguided on what will make their life better. An addict of sorts will ruin their life on the false belief that what they are doing is making things better. Someone who spends all their money on lottery tickets is ruining their life because they are neglecting themselves and their responsibilities by wasting that money, but they believe they are doing the right thing by helping their chances of winning. A heroin addict believes he is helping his life by shooting up, because if he quits he will be miserable, sick, and could possibly die. So staying high keeps his quality of life 'good', in his opinion. People who have affairs think it is adding an exciting feature to their life, something that gives them pride and pleasure, yet little do they know they are risking losing their family. To a lesser extent, people who smoke, such as I (so i can speak from experience unfourtunatly) know that smoking is bad for our lives and health, yet fear that not smoking will be worse on us that continuing to smoke. I think people always try to make their lives better, in whatever situation they are, and therefore take action to imrpove their lives. The only problem is, sometimes those actions taken can drastically destroy their lives, quickly and irrepairably sometimes. Its unfourtunate, but we cannot blame people who's lives are heading down hill all of the time, for often they know no other way.

For some people who may have a disorder, they purposely try to destroy their life. They may not be in control of the situation or not even understand why they do what they do. I went through life changing jobs every few years, sometimes spending money like there was no tomorrow, purposely hurting the ones around me. It was not until I took one of the test on MD.com that I realized I had a disorder that was effecting me.

Yes, I think some people are happiest when they're miserable. I firmly believe that people can choose to be happy or not - but that's work. Some people would rather play the pity party and feel sorry for themselves, blaming everyone and everything else for their problems. To be truly happy you have to know your shortcomings and admit your faults, so you can improve on them. Some people do it to garner attention too - "Feel sorry for me!". It's sad. You shouldn't rely on other people or other things to make you happy. Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want. Good question!

I think sometimes when something goes wrong for someone they apply it their whole life and in a way sabotage their own success. Others can look at one failure as just that one failure and move on without letting it affect their self esteem or confidence.
In essence, yes people can ruin their own lives by believing they will always fail and creating a self-fulfilling prophecy by sabotaging their own success.

Do you think people ruin their life's on purpose?
-The short answer is NO! Metaphysically speaking, it is viewed that a life plan is compiled prior to one entering this sphere of existence, therefore the actions taken are planned by the indivual prior to entry.
-Why would one plan those things that seemingly "ruin ther life", for the growth of the spirit and their evolment to at-one-ment with their Creator.
-Thus we see the infinite desire by we His/Her children to please our Sires
-Self is ever that to be conquered whether in this incarnation or another
