Fall is a great time for bulbs for spring.
Mums aka Chrysanthemum are really popular this time of year. You can get them in all sorts of colors.
Ornamental Kales and flowering cabbages are good choices and put color in your yard as winter comes...
Here is a site too with an article that might be helpful!

It is good to plant bulbs. I know this isnt part of the question but I have this idea.
You plant flowers in you grass, If they bloom in Spring they grow out in your yard and it looks like a feild of flowers, by the time your grass grows to the height of cutting it they die and dont come up until next year, it is really beautiful.

Depends on where you live. You might want to plant some junipers, they can do good on blocking out wind and keeping your house warm in the fall and winter.

YOU COULD PLANT SOME NICE FERNS WITH PANSIES .
PANSIES DO REALLY GOOD HERE IN THE MIDWEST TOO .
BUT IF YOU WANT TO PLANT DAFFODILS AND TULIPS MAKE SURE THAT YOU COOL THE BULBS FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS (LIKE 2-3 ) IN THE REFRIGERATOR.That WAY YOU WILL MAKE THEM "THINK" IT'S WINTER .AND YOU WILL HAVE MORE SUCCESS.

Your best bet would be to call a local plant nursery, the experts for your local. They stock the plants that will do best in your area. They are always willing to tell you whatever you need to know without charge.

Here in NW Georgia we plant pansies. They bloom right throught the winter here, and look pretty good. Lots of colors to choose from.

Trish has you covered on this. I do want to say, fall is the best time to plant bulbs, many wait until spring to do this, but fall is the best time!
