One time coming back from Tijuana, they gave me a hard time. Still had to show my id and all. Some Navajos from Chinle - those that only speak Navajo - were detained because the feds thought they were from Chile. A call to the Navajo census office got them through but only after several hours.

Indian reservations are considered sovereign nations, not under US jurisdiction (because, as others have pointed out, it was their land all along). So I guess the US government doesn't have a right to prevent a Native American from entering his home country. Many Native Americans might not even be considered US citizens (not sure about that though), in which case they wouldn't be entitled to a US passport.
