Why do Sunday papers have a completely different editorial team than their weekday cousins. e.g. The Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday? What do this team do on the other 6 days?

Sunday papers are a scam. There is almost never any news in them. Most of the stories could have been written weeks in advance. We pay extra for the paper while at the same time, there are tens of thousands of dollars in extra inserts. The newspapers make a ton of money off Sunday papers. In general, newspapers have markedly declined over the past few years and now so much about the revenue that it is a crime. Even the comics are getting lame.

I think in some cases the weekend papers were a seperate publication that became amalgated with the weekly one like the Sun and the News of the World.
Often the Sunday paper is more of a review of the week with lifestyle supplements as well. It usually costs around 100% more.
I guess cause most people have longer to read it and it is part of the weekend ritual for people to have a lie in, breakfast in bed and read the papers.

What would be the point of the same paper everyday? Unless you have ever worked at a newspaper office or delivered newspapers, you have no idea just how many lives newspapers touch. One carrier in a rural area can deliver up to 500 papers per night. This is their income. I delivered for 9 months, so I know what is involved in it. My husband worked 14 yrs with newspapers in different aspects of the job, from manager to delivery, before we married. The reason I would think for different editors on the weekend could be just like any job, everyone deserves a day or two per week off. When you spend 4-6 hours a night (usually 6 nights per week-actually early morning, normally anywheres from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.-while traffic is low) delivering papers you have a new respect for the newspaper, its employees and its readers.

Sunday papers are something I look forward to. Sitting down and relaxing with a cup of coffee and a big fat paper full of stuff. If we had the same every day we would not have anything to look forward to any more, besides print the same sale ads over and over, that would be boring and take up too much time not to mention a lot of wasted paper.

The sunday paper was created in the late 19th century in response to the newly-educated's demand for reading material.

Most of you Sunday paper staff would also work on the daily.

It's all about the COUPONS!! Sunday's paper has all the store coupons plus restaurant coupons. More Job listings,a travel section. The comics are in color. What more could you ask for and who needs the daily paper when you get all this from Sunday's.

Because if the Sunday papers were sold on a Wednesday, they would cease to be Sunday papers and would be Wednesday papers!

They are probably getting the Sunday paper ready for the next week. It is the thickest paper of the week and therefore requires more staff and more work!
