It really depends on the doctors involved it is always best to check. all three of my boys were circumcised by the OB gyn. Maybe it depends on the state codes. MY youngest was not going to be seen by a pedi but a family doc.
Each parent should check in their own circumstances because no too are alike.

I have three sons and all were circumcised by my OB/GYN.
In my opinion I want a surgeon to perform the surgery, that is my OB/GYN not the Pediatrician.
Seeing the other posts, I guess it depends on where you live and what the doctors prefer.
I would consult with each--well before my due date!

It's usually the pediatrician. That's why when you are looking for a peds. doc when you are preg. (if you don't already have one) that's one of the questions you ask; if they even do circumcisions. Some docs. don't believe in them (due to religion) and won't even perform them if you ask, they will tell you, you might have to find another doc. No Joke. For my first preg. I met with a few docs. in the event I were to have a boy and two out of the five would not perform the procedure. I found a Jewish doctor that said no problem. But I ended up having a girl and then another girl 4 yrs later, so I will probably not have to worry about that issue at the rate I'm going. HA, HA, HA

Your ob/gyn will do it. If you have a midwife, I don't know--I think maybe a hospital staff ob would do it. A circumcision (even though it's minor and quick) IS still considered surgery, and all ob/gyns are surgeons. Pediatricians and midwives are NOT.

Most hospitals where I live (Washington State) will not perform circumcision because it is cosmetic surgery and is not recommended by any medical association in the world. If you would never consider giving your baby a nose job or tattoo then please reconsider the circumcision. Circumcision carries the same risks as any other major surgery and has no benefits other than cultural preference, which is actually changing toward intact penises, especially on the West Coast.
Please check out these links before deciding for sure to have your son circumcised. As mothers, we wait for 9 months hoping to have a healthy baby. Why give them major cosmetic surgery without adequate anesthetic as soon as they're born? If a baby is born without a foreskin then it is considered a birth defect, so why pay (or have your insurance pay) to give your child a birth defect?
http://www.circumstitions.com/Itsaboy.html - easy to read, how to care for the intact penis and solid reasons why not to circumcise (his body, his decision).
http://www.doctorsopposingcircumcision.org/DOC/circumcision_quiz.htm - take this quiz to find out what you know about circumcision, written by an MD.
I am very thankful that my mother-in-law left my husband intact. She left the decision of whether to be circumcised or not up to him and he decided that he is very attached to his foreskin. It is an integral part of the penis and I honestly don't even know how a penis functions without it... I know it must, but can't figure out how.
If your husband is pushing the circumcision because he's circumcised then keep in mind that it's your son's penis, not your husband's. If he really wants to match his son, then he can always restore his foreskin and regain some of what was lost to him when his mother took his choice away from him. He can never regain all of it, but men who have restored their foreskins report a drastic improvement.
If you want the circumcision because of your aesthetic preference, then just keep in mind that you will never be having sex with your son (we hope) and that the boys being born now are less than half circumcised depending on what part of the US you live in. In the pacific NW the rates are in the upper 20%. In the midwest it's still around 60-70%, but falling every year. So likely, your future daughter-in-law will prefer intact because I've never met a woman who preferred circumcised if she was open-minded and ever with an intact man.
Best wishes!

I can't believe this! "sleepingangel" saw it done to her 4day old baby, her only regret was that she saw the horrible ordeal they put her son through. What kind of cold blooded reptiles are you females anyway? Have you no heart at all? The kid was screaming his lungs out, and it was too tough on you? How about the boy? How about making sure this doesn't happen to any more babies?
To answer the question, circumcisions are carried out by shamans, witch doctors, mohels, ob/gyn, ped.s, surgeons, gps or anybody else that puts personal gain above humanity. Anything to drive a new Lexus.
Circumcision is mutilation, it is unnecessary, it doesn't protect from ANY disease. It serves no real purpose.
His body. His choice.

Most of the time the OB/GYN does it in the hospital right after birth.
But who ever does it, have it done before you leave!! I had to take my son 4 days later to have it done and was in the room. This is something I would not wish upon my worst enemy. To watch your 4 day old son straped to a table screaming and you can't do any thing about it . Trust me honey, have it done ASAP and while you re cooperate from labor so your mind is not on it.

Ask your OB. The hospital I delivered at does them before the babies are released, but the nurses at my OB's office said they recommend my OB to do it because she's very good at it. They usually have interns doing the circumcisions in the hospital. I had a girl, so I didn't have to worry about it, but it was good info to know for the future.

My pediatrician (who is a surgeon) did it the day before I was discharged. That is how it was done with the birth of my 2 sons (ages 3 1/2 and 11 months)

My sons were circumcised by my ob/gyn, but it may be different in the community you live in.
