The best known material for bulletproof vests is Kevlar, a synthetic material created by DuPont, which is spun and woven into a cloth. However, they can also be made from other similar materials including Dyneema, Twaron, Zylon, GoldFlex, and Spectra. These are all synthetic fibers as well, and are lighter and stronger then Kevlar, but also more expensive. Bulletproof vests for military use are often lined with titanium or ceramic material to provide resistance to more powerful ammunition.
