Use my technique here: we NEVER answer the phone at once; we screen calls. If it's someone we want to talk to we pick it up otherwise.....as for the mail: collect all of it, and when it is a good bunch, put it in a large mailing bag and send it back to him with a note that you NEVER open any mail from him and that in future it won't be returned, it'll just go to the city dump- unopened, of course.
That should provide the gentle persuation he needs.

not enough details to make a wise suggestion...but I will tell you that I didn't speak to my bro for years due to HIS choices. (he was a drug addict/dealer for 15 years) He wound up in prison, and upon his realease, my mom called "truce" to try to mend our family. Turns out, he was in prison long enough to actually for real get sober. He was like the kid that I knew when we were in grade school. That was 8 years ago. We live 2 hours apart, but we have mended our relationship and I'm very relieved to have him in my life.
I also made the discovery that forgiveness made ME feel better. I had a black place inside myself where I was angry at him for his stupidity. But, now that I have had the chance to forgive him, I feel more like a whole person. If I never talk with him again, the forgiveness that I worked on after our reunion was well worth the effort.
Just sharing.

Do you even know what he is calling you for? I would think if someone hasn't seen me for that long and is trying, repeatedly to get ahold of me, I would at least find out what the problem is.
If it is just pestering, change your e-mail address, and phone number - if you really don't care to talk to him.

Let him know the next time he calls.
I would also return all of his mail unopened, and change your phone number.

Open up and tell him how you feel. The best way to handle this is to be direct and get it over with.

just send the mail back and don't answer if it's him - he'll get the hint eventually

I would tell him that if he really cares he will respect your wishes and leave you alone.
