No. Not in and of itself. False religion certainly has been the cause of many wars, crimes, and suffering throughout mankind's history. Even today, the largest violent conflict in the world has at its root religious hatred.

However, a blanket statement that all religion is the root of all evil is unnecessary. The Bible, as quoted earlier, clearly states: "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." That is Satan the Devil. He is the one behind false religion.

Whether you believe in God or not you must agree that there is much false religion in the world. Even critics agree that if all were to sincerely apply the teaching laid forth in the Bible the world would be a much better place. Sadly, the majority do not. Therefore, one cannot blame the world's problems on religion alone, but rather false religion and the general moral degradation present in the world today.

"Money is the root of all evil" is the way it is supposed to go, but I disagree. Money is just paper. It is the "love" of money that is evil. As for the rest of evil, well, there is no evil without man. It is what humans think that causes evil so therefore when humans do not control themselves there can be evil. That is pretty simplistic, but it is only a nutshell. There have been volumes written about this subject.

Hi.
Religion can be a convenient scapegoat for society's ills. I don't say that all religion is right or that every act done in the name of God is. However, people cheat, lie to and murder each other for many other reasons besides their religious beliefs. As a committed Christian I believe that the root of all evil is connected with the sinful heart of mankind. The Bible says that sin and death came into the world through the disobedience of the first man towards God and you only have to take a look around you to see that we are still reaping the consequences of that. Man is incapable of functioning properly apart from relationship with and obedience to his creator. Surely logic dictates that the One who made us knows what's best. Thousands of years of doing our own thing has not resulted in a loving, harmonious society. If anything, things are getting worse...
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (God) except through Me."
God bless you.

People are the root of all evil. Most people think their "kind" is superior to all others. Religion only feeds this. Race, Nationality, and religion are the seperators. We are all human., and need to start cating as such.

I don't think so. 80% of Americans are religious.

There are religious fundamentalists who deny the validity of science, and scientific fundamentalists who deny the validity of religious beliefs without any scientific basis. (Science can tell us much about the last 13 billion years, and nothing useful about how the whole thing started).

Both kinds of fundamentalism are destructive. There can be harmony between science and religion (many scientists are religious) but the arguments are made destructive by people on both sides.

There will always be evil whether there is religion or not. But people can use it as a disguise to commit evil in the name of their "faith"

I don't think so. It is people's intolerance of others with a different point of view. Admittedly some of the religions have this intolerance written in, but people would still behave badly without religion.

The root of all evil is mankind. We create our own evil if desired.
