A cult usually uses coersion to keep members in the group saying you will be damned if you leave and tries to cut links with other family members and friends who are not in that group. Churches/Sects of recognized religions can also act like cults.

A cult can pertain to anything and is usually not related to God or deities, while cults usually pertain to radical ideals such as hating a certain race for instance. They are both organized groups of people that hold similar ideas though.

a cult has no free will, are not open to listen to anyone. like the group that broke off from the mormons lead by warren jeffs or the freaky fred phelps family. although the phelps disguise themselves as a church.

A religion is what I believe in.
A cult is what "they" believe in.
At least that has been my observation with most people who regularly use the term cult.

religion is something that we inherit from birth .although it seperates people in to various groups and make them feel different from each other.[i personally don't like this various religons and why can't we be just human beings in planet earth.]
culture is somethin we gain after the birth.they are called social acceptance.culture means rituals and beliefs of people came from generation to generation.

A cult is not sanctioned by the goverment.

They are both similar. One person does all the talking, the sheep follow! They both cause more deaths by war than anything else.
