I am wondering what are the pros/cons of living in the area of Ocala, FL. I currently live in PA, and am thinking of moving to the Ocala area. Does anyone have any tips?

I used to live there, I now live in Atlanta. Ocala is hot and humid in the summer, and cold and wet and dreary, with grey skies in the winter. Plus, I don't know anything about the current demographics, but Ocala used to be hicksville, which can be either a pro or con, depending upon your individual preferences.

I'm also from Johnstown, PA. Believe me, as bad as I portrayed Ocala, it's better than Johnstown in the winter.

Why not think about Atlanta. 4 seasons, but a mild winter. It snows once or twice during the winter, but it's usually gone the day after.

I love it!

After 5 yrs in Ocala, I can say the pro for most people is the weather. The winters are mild, in the 70 s or more during the day & abit cooler in the evenings. That temp only lasts about 3 months. The rest of the months its hot. The summers extremely hot.
As for employment. If one is in the medical field then one can probably find a job. Ocala is horse country. Race horses are raised & trained here.
There are alot of colleges in the area. University of Fl is only 40 min away in Gainesville, as is Sante Fe College.
Shopping isn t crazy plentiful. But to get ur shopping fix Orlando premium outlets or Fl Mall is only an hour away. Spend all day & u ll be happy to come home.
Then there are the villages. I am talking seniors at their best! There is dancing, golf, games, shopping. These older folks have a ball!
So, there is Ocala in a nut shell. Do I like it? Its ok, my eye is on the prize of one day leaving. But I m in my 40 s & have a few other things to do on my bucket list.

Ocala is interior the path of nowhere, yet has some sturdy lakes in case you want to boat. purely be careful of the gators. And conversing of gators, that is no longer a techniques from Gainseville, yet it incredibly is quite purely a school city, so do no longer anticipate lots. And in case you think of Ocala is interior the path of nowhere, then examine out Sebring - yet it incredibly is Even worse. the place as Ocala is barely a million a million/2 hours remote from Orlando, Sebring is even farther in vacationing time.

Don't do it! Hot all the time! Except Disney is cool, and the Keys. Supposedly there are more jobs there, but I heard the same about PA. I live in New England and you're pretty lucky to find a job that is not at a casino out here. But no one will ever make me move away, I love the 300 year old houses, etc.
