My son is 15 months . I started giving him the regular cows milk when he turned a year old. Is this the right way?Are there any substitute for the cows milk that is more nutritious for a 15 moht old?

Cow's milk at a year or even a LITTLE younger is ok as long as they tolerate it well(no serious constipation, upset stomach, belly aches, cramps, diarrhea, etc.) because every child is different. You are their mother so trust your instincts, Mother DOES know best. Not knocking DOC's, but sometimes they think they are God, and many don't even have children of their own, they just read from their "textbooks" about what the "average" child should be doing, etc.

I would get some vitamin drops and put in their milk/juice etc., to supplement. That's what i did and they contain the same as formula does. My kids did just fine that way.

Yes that is the correct age to start cows milk. Always check with your pediatrician before doing anything drastic like changing formula to milk etc.

I was concerned when I was about to change from formula to milk and I did some reading and if your son has a problem with cows milk you can try him on soy milk. I also read that goats milk it better for humans, it is easier on the stomach and breaks down better and just as nutricious as cows milk.

I soy no big fan of soy (even though I kept my son a vegetarian till he was 18 months only with a little bit of chicken here & there) and I gave him Boca Veggie Nuggets- you really can not tell they are not real chicken and considered soy & 1% milk for him but his doctor said toddlers need the fat in whole milk for the development of their brains. So he is now 2 yrs old and I am going to start him on 2% soon.

So try soy and if you can get goats' milk easily and are game to try it go for it. What ever is best for YOUR baby is what you need to keep in mind and always talk to his peds 1st.

Good luck!!!

AFter 12 months cow milk is right. I would suggest WHole milk as he needs the fat from the milk during year 2.

There is nothing wrong with that. I started giving my son cows milk when he was 6 months because he wouldn't take anymore breast milk and he didn't like formula. I talked to his doctor out and he said that was fine just make sure he gets iron. All children are different.
Good Luck

Cow's milk may be started as early as 9 months. My baby boy is 10 months old and does not want anything but breast milk. But we noticed his health was not improving like it should, based on other kids in our large family.

What you did was the right thing to do.

In addition to cow's milk - and not as a substitute - we have started almond-powder in two teaspoons of cow's milk, semolina porridge - again in cow's milk with one teaspoon of Nestle DHA-ARA formula supplement added.

Every parent can experiment what works best for their baby, but an open forum like this is not bad for spreading good ideas. Good luck.

It is fine to give cows milk to your son, but if you are finding that he is lactose intolerant(gassy w/ diarrhea and stomach cramps) you can try Soya Milk it has all of the essential nutrients and it is fortified with vitamin D (which milk and the sun provide) so it is a healthy alternative.

I started my kids on cows milk at 1 year, and they did just fine. They've always gotten 2%, and I've never had a problem.

Giving your son cow's milk is perfectly healthy thing to do. If you are concerned you can try to give him vitiamins in liqud form.Talk to your doctor about this. ALSO I believe that both Enfamil and Similac and Carnation as well make a step two formula which i think is for babies 8 to 18months of age check into that as well. Ho
