A cult is a little more extreme. Religions only take some of your money. A cult will move you to a place where you are totally isolated from other people. Religions only do this for a weekend or so. They both try to brainwash you. A religion will allow some free though as long as you do the things they want you to do & give them money.

If it has a certain amount of followers or history, it's a religion. If it's fairly new with just a handful of followers, it's a cult.

Scientology is a great example, it's about halfway between the 2 with a little bit of history and a growing number of followers and therefore is sometimes described as a religion and sometimes a cult by various people

Usually a religion is an accepted belief by a higher church say christianity, Islam, Judaism etc It is usually a belief system that follows rules and values to promote a good life for it's followers. A cult is seen as a social taboo and usually a negative belief system where it's members are subject to extreme beliefs or the leader gains something from the members, not so socially acceptable.

A cult is commonly described as an , often radical, new set of ideas or beliefs that revolve around a person, idea or item, a group that cuts off members from 'non-believers'.

A religion is often described as a set of beliefs pretaining to some kind of supernatural power, often the creator of the universe and mankind, and has been around for many thousands of years and has many, many followers.

However it is worth bearing in mind that originally, Chrisitianity was regarded as a cult.

There really is no clear-cut definition,or so i believe, so this is only a guide!

Generally, it has to do with a cult living outside of conventional society, and being led by a charismatic leader. (That's why many call Scientology a "cult,", since its main focus is the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard.)

A "religion" tends to believe in a supernatural power; a cult may or may not.

A religion is something you practice for yourself and your life, completely independent of other people. A cult is a group of people from a religion (usually with a leader who started the group) who is obsessed with the religion and pressure you to join and hassle you lots usually to get money out of you or some other weird satisfaction from you following them! E.G. A christian follows god; a christian cult member follows it's leader.
