I've been writing music (Rock) for a while now and gotten a few offers from up and coming bands, but I know I can get more out of them. I never took my music that seriously before but I've recently noticed the potential. What is the best way to get my music exposed and get the most out of them?

There are several musicians groups on the internet. (eg Riffage, MSN). Just do a Google search. They can help get you exposure, but ultimately it's best these days to produce your own music on the computer and then put it on your own website.

There's a ton of s/w out there for mixing music, and many are free (look on PCWorld for starters). Even if you just write lyrics, there are ways to get in touch with musicians, or you can try to create your own music using MIDI instruments.

Once you make a song, send out samples and draw fans to your website. Then start selling the CD's online. You'll be a real success if you work at it.

I've heard all the nightmares about record companies ripping musicians off, so I'm glad that we have ways to publish music without them.

I wish you the best of luck. If you really like your own music there's a good possibility others will feel the same way.

well my friend if you decide to go solo be ready to pay session musicians in order to record your stuff, problem is most of these session musicians dont commit unless there are some serious $$ if you can afford it then done deal you're good to go, on the other hand if you have a band is more of a collective effort and people are usually more committed, try to find people who share your musical taste, and people with vision and drive, gotta be ambitious in a good way in this biz, otherwise you end up stuck like 85% of the bands out there.. oh don't forget to get your stuff copyrighted..that's the golden rule, you never know who's gonna end up playing and recording your stuff if its not copyrighted ..

The best way to get your music exposed is to have a team of professional songwriters and artists/musicians from the Music Industry, look at your material and that way you might get a song writing/publishing contract. The best source that I know of that can get you started off is :
The Song Of Year people in Houston, Texas, USA, and their website is as follows:
http://www.songoftheyear.com they have a monthly writers, artists and composers competition, you never know, you might win! The prizes other than contracts are fab. Try it and see !

Be solo, you can get the help of musicians to record. That way you'd have you music. Then you have the choice of joining a band or having your own band.
