At one time, the Republicans were the more moderate of the two parties. Over time, it was taken and now controlled by conservatives, with their own agendas.

Do you think if the Republicans appealed to moderates, the party would grow?

PS....Rudy Gulliani, is the Republicans only hope to win in 2008! He is PRO-CHOICE, he will never get the Republican nomination for President. I don't know why some Republicans fool themselves by thinking that he'll be the Republican nominee.

Republicans are too extreme for most of us.

Without a doubt. Most Americans are toward the middle. I'm a Democrat but toward the middle. If there were a moderate Republican and left wing Democrat in an election, I have to admit I'd probably vote for the Republican. I'm not a "along party lines voter", but instead a voter that looks into each candidates beliefs and stances on issues.

the same can be said of the Democrats
i feel that is why we have lost power
by catering to every minority group
the party has drifted away from it's base.( the working class)
republicans and independents see this and are picking up those left behind.
the party nearest the center will attract the most people.

It would change, you could lose the far right in order to appeal to others. I use to be a Conservative republican (I thought) you remember, smaller gov., balanced budget, smart appointments, etc. Haven't a clue where that group went. I use to have to have binoculars to see the left now I need one to see the right.
I haven't a clue what I am now, where's someone like Ike when you need him.
