I have a huge front window that is three panes. The one pain of glass is cracked so I just want to remove the one pane instead of replacing the window.

In any hardware store, you can glass cutters. They look like a little pizza cutter.

If each pane is seperated, you do this:

(SAFETY NOTE- it will probably break at some point. Wear gloves and protect yourself!)

- Carefully pry out the trim
- Dig the old glazing (window caulk) out with a puncturing-type can opener or other pointy tool
- Pull out any glazing points or small nails used with pliers
- Remove the pane of glass. It may take some careful tapping from the other side. If the pane is already cracked, it will probably break- be careful!
- Using the can opener or similar tool, scrape the sash where the glass goes- remove old glazing, other points or nails, caulking, etc. to make a clean seat for the new window.

- Measure the opening well- know the biggest and smallest the pane can be and still fit in the sash right. Order it just a hair smaller than the largest it could be- ideally, it will cover between 1/2 and 3/4 of the sash groove it came out of.
- Run a small bead of glazing caulk on the sash where the window is going.
- Put the new glass in place and press some glazing points in to hold it in place.
- Run another bead of glaze to secure and weather seal everything.
- Replace the trim(if any), paint, etc.

There are numerous glass cutters available, and range in price and quality. The cheaper ones do not work well and the more expensive ones that are self oiling are expensive. If you have no experience in this area, I would take the pane to a glass store and get them to cut it. If you do it yourself: score the glass once with the cutter, support the score and tap along it until it breaks, hopefully straight.

I can tell you how to do it, but I need more information on the type of door and whether or not the glass in there is tempered, how thick it is, etc.
