It sounds a tad like "Heavenly Creatures"..directed by Peter *LotR* Jackson. Two schoolgirls *one played by Kate Winslet* develop crushes on each other and have an affair. Kate's character is mentally unbalanced and she "creates" this mythical fantasy world her friend and she visit. The other girl's mom finally forbids her daughter to see her and rather than be separated, both girls murder her by bashing her head in w/ bricks in a pair of pantyhose. They both go to prison for life for the murder. If you see the Kate Winslet commercial where she says "At 17, I went to prison for murder", this is the movie she is talking about. GREAT MOVIE...based on true events, I believe.
I think this may be that movie, not sure about the boat.
